Do you love coffee? You might just a have a little bit each day and that is fine, however having too much might lead to weight gain.

According to an article in the Sydney Morning Herald by Bridie Smith coffee might not be great when trying to lose the weight:

“Researchers from the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research and the University of Western Australia found that drinking more than six cups of coffee a day – even when decaffeinated – could lead to the abnormal retention of fat within cells.”

The team in West Australia studied a compound called, ‘chlorogenic acid’  this was tested on mice and were fed the coffee compound and a high fat diet for 12 weeks. The results suggest that six cups of coffee lead to weight gain and also glucose intolerance and increased insulin resistance.

So a little bit is fine but too much is bad. This is like chocolate and alcohol, making sure you have a little is wise but over indulging is not a good idea and can cause issues.

How many cups of coffee do you have? Do you just stick to one? Maybe this study might make you just stick to one or two if you have more.
