Is working out once a week all you need to do? I know it sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? According to a news.com.au article if you managed to get a two and half hour workout that of course makes you sweat, you were just as healthy as people who train every day. Hard to believe right!
What are your thoughts on this once a week massive exercise hit? I do agree that a little bit each day to add up to two and half hours might be the way to go. I feel that people might over do it and then not want to exercise due to an injury or just exhaustion as they are not used to the activity in such short burst too soon.
In a study conducted by Dr Janssen in the news.com.au article he states that:
“The adults who met the advice of more than 150 minutes a week of aerobic activity were divided into those who exercised on five to seven or one to four of the days.”
According to Dr Janssen those that exercised just on the weekend and did the required 150mins of exercise obtained the same health benefits as those that exercised every day.
So the take away from this is that we need a minimum of 150 minutes of exercise a week and it is fine across the week or just in one day. I for one would like to pace myself and work up to it, I do sometimes do a lot in one day but I do find that I am tired or recovering afterwards.
I am the type of person who likes to do a little bit more regularly if my schedule permits. What about you? Send in your comments.
